Scott and Ann Brunger worked in West Africa in the Methodist Church of Benin and Togo. There they read a story in an anti-colonial magazine entitled “The Togolese at the North Pole,” Tété-Michel Kpomassie had gone to Greenland to explore a route to the North Pole. Their Togolese friends approved the idea that their compatriot was exploring “White Man's Country.” Ultimately, the notebooks of his visit served to earn his master's degree in anthropology and to help write his book “L'Africain au Groenland.”

Quand Scott et Ann Brunger travaillaient en Afrique de l’Ouest au sein de l'Ëglise Méthodiste du Benin et du Togo, en 1970 ils ont lu «Le Togolais au Pôle Nord» dans une revue anti-coloniale. Leurs amis togolais approuvaient l'idée que leur compatriote Tété-Michel Kpomassie explorait “la terre des hommes blancs.” En fin de compte, ses cahiers d'exploration lui ont fourni la base d'une maîtrise en anthropologie aussi bien que son livre «L'Africain au Groenland.»
